Cowboys wrestling sends eight on to districts

The Cowboy wrestling team put eight guys through to the district round in taking yet another sectional team title last Saturday at Manson. They compiled 225.5 points to just barely finish ahead of the host team at 220 points. Following those two were Eagle Grove at 186, West Bend-Mallard at 154, PAC at 142, Belmond-Klemme at 71 and St. Edmond at 37.5.

Moving on to districts this Saturday at Sioux Rapids as champions are Tyler Stein (113), Remi Hanson (138) and Garrett Seaba (152). Stein took an easy 16-0 technical fall win over Graham (EG), then pinned Egli (MNW) in 52 seconds in the finals. Hanson disposed of Dencklau (EG) in 39 seconds, then pinned Kohnen (MNW) in 5:46 to win the gold. Seaba started with a fall in 50 seconds over Rossmanith (SE), then took a 6-0 win over Krueger (MNW) for first place.

Advancing as runner-up in their respective brackets are Cale Kirstein (120), Reed Abbas (145), Cael Ahrens (170), Camden Hanson (195) and Kain Nelson (220). Kirstein won his first two matches before losing to Rolon (EG) by fall, but didn’t need a wrestleback match after beating that kid earlier in the day. Abbas won by a fall then lost to Dawson (EG) by fall. He pinned Warren (B-K) in :36 in the wrestleback match. Ahrens won 5-4 over Williams (PAC), then lost by fall to Fehr (WB-M). He advances with no wrestleback needed. Hanson pinned Olson (EG) in 1:19, then lost his next match. Since he had already beaten Olson, no wrestleback match was needed. Nelson won 12-9 over Peterson (MNW), then lost 17-7 to Mendoza (EG). Since he had already beaten Peterson, he advances on.

Rafael Jimenez (180) and Daniel Chavez (285) were both third. Jimenez scored two fall wins, while Chavez won a 9-0 major on the day. Ethan Traub (126), Ben Oehlert (132) and Bryce Allen (160) were all fourth. Traub had a fall over Massner (WB-M) in 2:00 and Oehlert a fall in 1:06 over Summers (B-K) as their highlights.
