In addition to the team taking part in State Duals on Wednesday, there will be three Cowboy wrestlers trying for an individual gold medal during the traditional tournament starting Thursday. Following action at the 1A District in Sioux Rapids, Tyler Stein (113), Reed Abbas (145) and Garrett Seaba (152) all punched their ticket to the big dance at ‘The Well.’ Both Tyler and Reed return for a second straight year.
Stein opened his day with a 16-1 technical fall over Juarez (K-P), then lost his next to go into wrestlebacks. He pinned Graham (EG) in 1:20 to advance.
Abbas won a major decision 17-5 over Lynott (West Sioux) in his opening bout, then lost a narrow 6-5 decision to Dawson (EG). He had already beaten Lynott, so no wrestleback was needed as he automatically moves on.
Seaba won by fall in 2:44 over Currans (GT-RA) in the opener, then kept it going with a pin of Salker (W. Sioux) in 5:24 to earn the title.
Remi Hanson (138) and Kain Nelson (220) were denied a trip in finishing third. Hanson’s win of the day came by fall in 2:42 over Kohnen (MNW), while Nelson won by pin in a quick 24 seconds over VandenBos (W. Christian). Remi ends the year at 28-6 and Kain at 31-21.
Cale Kirstein (120), Cael Ahrens (170) and Camden Hanson (195) could not pick up a win in their two matches each and finished their seasons. Cale ends at 23-28, Cael at 23-28 and Camden with a 26-22 record.
