The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows music department shared a wide range of selections in their concert on Monday night. Both the high school concert band and concert performed that evening.
The concert band under the direction of Mr. Kent Wesselink was up first. They started out with a rousing march called “Bombshell March” that made the audience sit up in their seats. Wesselink also pointed out that the selection was arranged by C-G-D Middle School Band Director Tom Klaver. The band then presented a few international-flavored songs. The tune “Mexican Folk Song Fantasy” featured a variety of interesting percussion performances throughout. Next, with a little 80s throwback, the band shared “Africa,” made popular by the rock band Toto. The musicians ended their set with the toe-tapping number, “Danse Carnivale.”
The concert choir was up next under the direction of Mr. David Ackerman. Mr. Ackerman explained they were presenting “Song of America,” a conglomeration of several songs mashed together. There were four sections that made up the overall medley, including the Opening, Song of the Past, Song of the Soldier, and Song of Hope.
Within each section, there were many songs the audience was no doubt familiar with including “God Bless the U.S.A.,” “Oh! Susanna,” “A Bicycle Built for Two,” various military service songs and even the Bette Midler classic “From a Distance.”
Various times, over the music, senior Shpresime Iofoski narrated about the spirit of America and the place of music throughout our history. During the selection, several soloists also briefly performed, including Kylie Klaver, Jaylynn Eddington, Erin Heldenbrand, Ethan Hurt and Clinton Miller.
The C-D-D Music Boosters served refreshments after the concert.
