The Cowboy basketball had three players in double figures in a 75-30 opening round district win over Eagle Grove. The Cowboys were solidly in control 38-17 at the break.
Coady Olson led the way in draining 22 points through the rims with three treys included. Connor State had 15 points of 6 of 7 from the field, and Mateo Martinez 14 points with a trey. Jaxon Carpenter scored seven points, Gavin Wilson and Nevan Foss four points each and Devin Morales three points. Aiden Herrington, Landon Olson and Kaden Bricker all rounded out the column with two points apiece. State grabbed eight off the boards for nearly a double-double. Harrington made six rebounds, Wilson five and Martinez, Carpenter and Foss all four each. C. Olson and Cael Chase chipped in three rebounds each, L. Olson two and both Morales and Tyson Berning one each.
Carpenter dished the pumpkin for six assists, with Martinez making three, C. Olson and State two apiece and Chase and Foss one each. Carpenter picked pockets for five steals, with C. Olson credited with three and Martinez, Harrington, Morales and State all two each. State swatted down five blocked shots, while Berning added one to the column.
The next night out, the team was stopped on the tournament trail by Osage in a 68-43 loss. State finished with 18 points on 7 of 11 from the field. Carpenter and State made seven rebounds each, Carpenter four assists and Harrington four steals.
The team finishes 8-15 for the season.
