Both the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and the Iowa High School Athletic Association this week jointly released the list of new starting dates for spring sports in Iowa. Keep in mind that this is contingent on schools reopening on the May 1 date as already determined by Governor Kim Reynolds. That is subject to change if the COVID-19 pandemic forces it to be pushed back yet again.
For both girls and boys track & field, practice will start May 1 and the first competition will be held May 4. The co-ed state qualifying meets will be held on May 28, with the state co-ed meet pushed back from May 21-23 to the new dates of June 4-6 at Drake Stadium.
For girls and boys golf, the first practice and first meet dates are the same as for track. Girls regionals are now scheduled for May 26 (first round) and June 1 (final). Boys sectionals are now on May 29, with districts on June 5. Girls state golf is now June 8-9, with boys state golf on June 11-12 under the new schedule.
Host sites for the postseason will remain the same as previously listed, and any changes will be announced later. Both the IGHSAU and the IHSAA have set a maximum and minimum number of competition dates for the schools, and member schools may determine their own regular season schedule that best suites them. They also announced that golf posteason dates or sites could change based on course availability.
