Lighting stadiums and lifting spirits

The last few Friday nights, a curious sight could be seen at the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows football field. Despite the fact school is not in session and no activities are being held, the stadium lights have been burning bright. This is not a matter of someone forgetting to turn off the lights. Rather, this is a purposeful effort. The Iowa High School Athletic Director's Association is behind the promotion of high schools across the state of Iowa lighting up the stadiums at 8:00 pm each Friday night until school activities resume. C-G-D High School Athletic Director Patty Sann explains, “The lights will be left on for one minute for each day we have been out of school.” She also adds, “We wish to let our communities and students know that we miss them and look forward to having them back in our stadiums with the lights on and our communities back together very soon.” Superintendent Dr. Bob Olson agreed, saying “It is a great visual reminder of how many days students have not been in classes while supporting athletes who are missing the spring season. Until we can be together again, we will show that we haven't forgotten our students.”
