There has been a lot of uncertainty the last three months, which has lead to a lot of a questions about whether or not things would proceed as planned. One of the questions Daryl Watts has been asked, is will the Veterans Memorial Tower still be repainted this summer. His answer is yes!
“The painters are coming soon. Thank you for your patience and support,” Watts, chairman of the Veterans Memorial Tower board, stated last week.
Although they are having a difficult time pinpointing an exact date, Watts said the committee has been assured the painter will be arriving before too long.
“We’ve had good success fundraising for this project,” he added, excited about the planned improvements and appreciative of all those who have contributed.
In addition to repainting the faded yellow color on the west side of the wall, the designs also include painting the Twin Towers and a Pearl Harbor memorial on the east side, reminding us to “Never Forget.”
Watts is also excited to announce that they have had some new members join the Veterans Memorial Tower board. They include: Daryl Watts – Chairman Andrew Wagner – Secretary/Treasurer Don Deuel Fred Kesten Mike Boyd Ron Mohr Gwen Amonson – Honorary board member
The Veterans Memorial Tower project originally began in 2011 as a way to turn an old grain elevator that was deteriorating into a local masterpiece that recognizes local veterans and former Governor Robert Blue. It continues to grow as a symbol of not only our county pride, but our country pride as well. If funding continues, there are many ideas that the board has for improving this roughly 80- foot tower that could turn into a destination location for people to see.
The project has a 501(C) (3) status, which allows all contributions to be tax deductible. If you would like to help see this dream through to reality, or have questions, please contact any of the above listed board members, or they may be sent to: PO Box 126, Eagle Grove, IA 50533.
