Wright County Fair announces Scholarship winners

The Wright County Fair Board would like to congratulate our three scholarship recipients for this year!  We will highlight each one below – Congratulations to the Class of 2020!!

Our first scholarship recipient for this year is Jonathan Koester – Jonathan graduated from Eagle Grove High School and will be attending Iowa Central Community College in the Fall to study Welding Technology.

When asked what he has learned from the Wright County Fair, Jonathan shared – he has learned to set goals and work towards those goals.  He knows he will need to make adjustments along the way.

On his letter of recommendation it states Jonathan is a respectful, mature young man who is always willing to help when needed.  He has proven to be a very hard worker.

Koester wrote in his application letter, “The Wright County fair has been one of my family’s favorite events to participate in during the year. It is one of the things we look forward to and has encouraged quality family bonding time.”

Our second scholarship recipient is Jozey Gump.  Jozey recently graduated from Eagle Grove High School and will be attending Iowa State University in the fall to study Pre-vet.

When asked what Jozey learned from the Wright County Fair she stated – she has learned to be more responsible, respectful, be more appreciative of agriculture, and how important it is to give back.

Her letter of recommendation stated, Jozey is one of the hardest working ones I know.  She worked two jobs while maintaining an A average in school as well as being super involved in sports, clubs and music.

In her application letter Gump wrote, “I learned from participating in the Wright County Fair how to be more responsible, respectful, be more appreciative for agriculture, and how important it is to give back.”

Our third and final scholarship recipient for 2020 is HannahJo Gustafson-Hodson.  Hannah recently graduated from Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School and will be attending Iowa State University in the fall to major in Animal Science / Veterinary Medicine.

When asked what she has learned from the Wright County Fair Hannah shared – when I started showing in the Bucket-Bottle Calf show I had very little knowledge about cattle and how to handle them.  Now, 18 years later I can list fun facts off the top of my head and I can share with anyone how to properly care for cattle.  The fair has helped me grow my leadership and communication skills.

In her letter of recommendation it states – the list of adjectives to describe Hannah is extensive.  Determined, funny, hard-working, responsible, kind, and creative just to name a few.  Hannah is one of those young people that makes us older people excited for the future.

Hannah also wrote, “The Wright County Fair plays a key role in the bonding of our Community. It attracts people from all over our county and even those from others. This fair has many events, which provides a fun atmosphere for both friends and family to bond. This five day event brings out the best in our Wright County youth, it gives them an opportunity to share their many talents and hobbies, meet potential connections, and express who they are. It gives families an opportunity to spend time with each other and learn about new things through the vendors and all the entertainment.
