Sanders takes Grand Champion

Phoebe Sanders is at it again! She recently received Grand Champion for her FFA Market Lamb at the state competition. Sanders and her middleweight lamb Tyson took home the top honors this year. Last year, she had received Reserve Grand Champion. Sanders, a C-G-D grad from Eagle Grove, admits that things were pretty different this year considering the state fair was cancelled. Though the event was held at the fairgrounds, there was no big crowd and no sale of champions. However, Sanders said that did not stop her from putting in more work than she ever had before. Hours of walking her lamb and preparing for the competition paid off. She emphasized, “Last year just lit a bigger fire under us. We got a taste of what we wanted and worked harder than ever.”

Sanders adds that many people helped her achieve her ultimate goal, including Rule Sheep Company who bred Tyson and her brother Denton who put in countless hours helping her, in addition to many other friends and family (some of whom are pictured). Sanders said she will put the prize money towards her college fund. This fall, she will be a sophomore at Iowa State. She looks forward to more livestock competitions this fall and in the years to come. Photo provided
