Cowgirl volleyball wins six more matches in week

The Cowgirl volleyball team traveled to Pocahontas last Tuesday to take on the Maidens. Algona was to have made it a triangular, but were forced to withdraw due to COVID-19 issues. The Cowgirls took the win in three straight sets by scores of 25-7, 25-12 and 25-16. Team serving finished at 86.3 percent, with Jadyn Jondle 14 of 15 (three aces). Morgan Middleton was 12 of 14 (three), Nicole Waters 11 of 13 (two) and Lexie Lane 10 of 12 (one). Alaina Friesleben was 8 of 9 (one), Kendall Lienemann 6 of 7 and Delia Swanson 2 of 2.

Friesleben set the ball for 23 assists, with Jondle, Lienemann, Lane, Karlee Lehman and Middleton all credited with one apiece. Middleton pounded 13 balls over for points in the attack. Lienemann and Lane had seven kills each, Friesleben and Summer Traub two each and Waters one. Jondle scooped up five digs, with Lienemann, Emma Conlon and Middleton making two each. Lane and Friesleben made one save of the ball each. Nikki Kapka, Friesleben and Traub all went above the net for two solo blocks each, with Lane, Middleton and Clarissa Hasty making one apiece. Waters had two block assists, with Lienemann, Swanson, Lane and Traub making one each.

On Thursday they hosted conference foe Iowa Falls-Alden, sending the Cadets down in three straight by scores of 25-15, 25-11 and 25-16. Team serving topped out at 90.3 percent, with Lienemann at 15 of 15. Lane was 14 of 18 (one), Jondle 12 of 12 (one) and Friesleben 10 of 12 (one). Middleton was 8 of 9 (two) and Waters 6 of 6 (two).

Friesleben set for 40 assists, with Middleton making 29 kills followed by Lane at seven and Lienemann five. Friesleben made three and Waters two. The 45 total digs were well distributed, with Jondle making the Lion’s share at 14 from her libero spot. She was followed by Lienemann with nine, Middleton with seven and both Conlon and Lane at five each. Friesleben had four and Waters one. Lane had three huge solo blocks and Waters two. Friesleben and Middleton chipped in one each. Traub and Waters had two block assists each and Lienemann one.

“What a way for the Cowgirls and seniors to come out on homecoming!” stated head coach Katrina TerHark. “How fun it is to see the girls play and dominate. We were able to keep the Cadets on their heels all night. We did come out a little slow the third set, but we were able to work through it. That comes with a lot of experience and being able to move forward. Thank you seniors for all your hard work and dedication to C-G-D volleyball.”

At a tournament in Boone on Saturday, the Cowgirls went 4-0 on the day and never dropped a set. They defeated Forest City 21-14 and 21-14. Team serving was at 95.1 percent, with Friesleben 10 of 10. She also had 14 assists to set up Middleton’s 15 kills. Jondle and Lienemann had seven digs each, while Middleton made three solo blocks. They defeated the host team 21-12 and 21-8. Serving finished at 100 percent, led by Lienemann at 9 of 9. Friesleben made 19 assists, Middleton 12 kills and Jondle six digs. Lienemann, Lane and Waters had one solo block each.

They faced sixth-rated (4A) Waverly-Shell Rock, turning back the Go-Hawks in straight sets 21-19 and 21-19. Serving was at 92.7 percent, with Lienemann 8 of 8. Friesleben made 24 assists, Middleton 18 kills and Jondle 13 digs. Lane went vertical for two solo blocks and Middleton for two block assists. They defeated Ames 21-11 and 21-6. Serving was at 89.7 percent, with Lane at 11 of 11 (three). Friesleben made 12 assists and Middleton nine kills. Conlon and Jondle had four digs each, with Middleton making two solo blocks.

For the day, Lienemann led serving numbers with 34 of 35 (three total aces). Lane was 33 of 34 (four), Friesleben 29 of 31 (two), Middleton 23 of 24 (four), Waters 19 of 20 (two) and Jondle 12 of 15 (one), Friesleben set for 69 total assists, with Middleton pounding 54 total kills in the attack. Lienemann had 14, Friesleben seven and Lane six.

Jondle made 30 total digs as the libero, followed by Lienemann at 23, Conlon at 16, Middleton at 15, Frieslen at 13 and Lane at 10. Middleton and Lane made five total solo blocks each, while Traub and Middleton had three assists each at the net.

The team hosts Hampton-Dumont/CAL this Thursday.
