Cross country teams run at tough Humboldt course

Sheldon Park, with its big hills, was the setting for a cross country meet at Humboldt last Monday. Gilbert won the girls varsity title on the tough course with just 84 points, followed in the top three of 18 full teams by Woodbury Central/Kingsley-Pierson with 91 and St. Edmond with 122. The Cowgirls were 18th. Ellie Meyer of Iowa Falls-Alden finished in 19:39.30 for first place.

Raven Kinnetz led the Cowgirls with a 23:46.80 for 26th at the finish. She was followed on the team by Makayla Pulido in  27:23.70 for 84th, Natalie Kirstein in 28:37.90 for 104th, Lauren Hansch in 32:46.40 for 121st and Nicole Lorenzo in 37:51.46 for 126th.

Finishes for the middle school girls were Makayla Beisel in 16:22.80 for 23rd and Madison Ingebritson in 17:18.60 for 35th place.

Gilbert won the boys varsity title with 90 points, followed in the top three of 21 complete teams by Humboldt with 102 and Clear Lake with 128 points. The Cowboys were 13th with 322 points. Quinton Orr of Humboldt crossed in 16:22.30 to win.

Kaeden Langfitt paced the red & black with an 18:51.40 for 13th overall, and was followed not far behind by Isaiah Nebbe in 19:16.90 for 24th in a fine effort from both. They were joined by: Jacob Ingebritson in 20:36.60 for 62nd; Nick Carpenter in 22:41.20 for 112th; Luke Brownell in 23:05.50 for 115th; Ian Schroder in 24:51.90 for 133rd and Jackson Beisel in 25:00.50 for 135th.

The Cowboy JV team was 11th, with Humboldt taking the win followed by Clear Lake and Gilbert. JV runners finishes were as follows: Alex Greving in 26:55.30 for 82nd; Joshua Moore in 27:55.70 for 91st; Caleb Jacobsen in 28:22.90 for 94th; Max Smith in 29:03.20 for 100th and Juan Jimenez in 34:06.00 for 117th.

Pocahontas Area won the middle school team title, followed by Algona and Hampton-Dumont/CAL. The Cowboys were eighth out of 11 full teams with 174 points. Finishes were as follows: Christopher Greenfield in 13:29.30 for eighth; Brandon Zigrang in 14:13.90 for 17th; Coleton Johnson in 17:12.50 for 56th; Christopher Revelorio in 17:42.90 for 57th; Jacob Wharton in 19:09.90 for 74th; Tate Jackson in 19:46.20 for 81st; Rusbel Garcia in 21:21.90 for 89th and Logan Frantz in 26:22.70 for 102nd.

“Our medalists were Raven, Kaeden and Isaiah,” stated head coach Daniel Murray. “Raven ran very aggressively over the last mile to move up 14 places. The varsity boys were only two points out of 12th and only 12 points from the top ten. Kaeden had a very good meet and looked strong throughout the race. Jacob is really solidifying the #3 spot on the team. For the JV boys, Josh and Max both had PR’s as they are now getting a few 5K races under their belts.”
