Cross country teams travel to Algona, Hampton

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows cross country participated in the Algona Invitational last Monday at the River Road course. Spencer used the strength of three finishers in the top four to win the varsity girls team title with just 56 points. They were followed in the top five of 15 complete teams by Mason City Public at 80, Charles City at 82, Okoboji at 116 and St. Edmond at 125. The Cowgirls did not field enough runners for a team score. Kiki Connell of Charles City took first with an 18:34 at the finish line.

Raven Kinnetz was again the top finisher for the Cowgirls, coming across in 23:00 for 41st place. She was followed by teammates Makayla Pulido in 25:13 for 78th, Natalie Kirstein in 26:10 for 89th and Lauren Hansch in 30:34 for 104th at the finish.

Madison Ingebritson represented the middle school in that race, finishing 35th out of 71 entries in 17:03.

The boys varsity team champion was Humboldt with a low of 60 points, followed in the top five of 19 complete teams by Webster City with 105, Mason City Public with 111, Clear Lake with 130 and St. Edmond with 150. The Cowboys were 13th out of 19 full teams with 326 points. Quinton Orr of Humboldt has been winning a lot of races and did it again at this meet with a 15:43 finishing time.

Isaiah Nebbe turned in a great effort to lead the Cowboys, clocking in at 18:15 for 23rd overall. He was followed by teammates Kaeden Langfitt in 18:40 for 40th, Jacob Ingebritson in 20:04 for 77th, Luke Brownell in 20:12 for 82nd, Nick Carpenter in 21:23 for 104th, Jackson Beisel in 23:16 for 115th and Ian Schroder in 24:30 for 123rd at the finish.

“Nearly everyone ran a season best time!” stated head coach Daniel Murray. “Natalie and Makayla had best times, by 2.5 and 2 minute respectively, and we look to continue to improve their times in the upcoming weeks. Raven was not feeling the best at this meet, but she still turned in a season best by 30 seconds and was one place away from medaling. Isaiah and Kaeden were medalists again, while Jacob and Luke continue to get closer to the 20-minute mark. The boys JV had some big PR’s. Juan had a new record in dropping five minutes, Max a new record in dropping four and Joshua a new record in dropping three minutes. Alex ran three minutes faster than his season best.”  

Humboldt also won the JV boys title with 51, followed by Okoboji with 67 and Mason City with 74. Cowboy finishes were as follows: Thomas Klaver in 22:57 for 53rd; Alex Greving in 23:06 for 55th; Max Smith in 24:56 for 66th; Joshua Moore in 25:09 for 67th; Caleb Jacobsen in 25:28 for 69th and Juan Jimenez in 27:52 for 72nd place at the finish.

The middle school team had an outstanding performance from Christopher Greenfield, who finished in 12:50 for third overall. Other finish times and places were: Coleton Johnson in 15:04 for 30th, Brandon Zigrang in 15:26 for 32nd, Jacob Wharton in 17:28 for 42nd and Russell Garcia in 17:37 for 44th.

The team took part in a meet on Thursday at Maynes Grove golf course and hosted by Hampton-Dumont/CAL. Nashua-Plainfield took the girls varsity team title with 56 points, finishing just slightly ahead of Sumner-Fredericksburg with 64 and West Fork with 65. The Cowgirls did not field a full team. Lydia Maas of H-D/CAL took first in 19:22.07 at the finish.

Raven Kinnetz used a 22:42.02 to take a nice 13th place finish. She was followed on the team by Makayla Pulido in 25:22.24 for 40th, Natalie Kirstein in 25:51.71 for 43rd and Lauren Hansch in 32:31.39 for 58th.

The varsity boys team had a great day in taking fourth in the final standings. West Fork won with a low score of 72 points, followed by Central Springs at 78, Garner-Hayfield/Ventura at 95, C-G-D AT 119 and North Butler at 131 points out of 10 full teams. Bryce McDonough of Central Springs crossed in 17:27.75 for first individually.

Isaiah Nebbe had a great run in posting an 18:31.36 for seventh place at the finish. Not far behind him was Kaeden Langfitt in 18:48.35 for 14th place. The rest finished like this: Jacob Ingebritson in 20:02.75 for 28th; Luke Brownell in 20:18.61 for 33rd; Nick Carpenter in 21:39.01 for 48th; Thomas Klaver in 24:02.59 for 65th and Max Smith in 25:41.13 for 67th.

The Cowboy JV team was first with 23 points, finishing ahead of the only other full team from West Fork with 33 points. The team had four of the runners in the top 15 at the finish line. Results were: Ian Schroder in 21:10.86 for second; Jackson Beisel in 22:18.09 for fourth; Alex Greving in 23:25.00 for seventh; Caleb Jacobsen in 24:28.54 for 15th and Juan Jimenez in 26:36.44 for 21st.

The middle school Cowgirls were represented by two entries. Madison Ingebritson finished in 16:51.22 for 20th, while Makayla Beisel crossed in 17:39.87 for 23rd out of 45 runners.

Waverly-Shell Rock won the boys middle school team title with 47 points, followed by Hampton-Dumont/CAL with 62 and the Cowboys with 76. Christopher Greenfield kept up his great pace this year, coming in with a 13:07.29 clocking for second out of 74 total runners. Behind him were: Brandon Zigrang in 13:43.01 for seventh; Coleton Johnson in 14:54.74 for 20th; Christopher Revelorio in 16:12.69 for 37th; Jacob Wharton in 17:05.79 for 42nd; Russell Garcia in 18:05.53 for 52nd; Tate Jackson in 18:16.87 for 56th; Bryce Lindaman in 19:48.03 for 66th and Logan Frantz in 21:35.75 for 70th.

“I thought we ran good if not better at this meet,” said the coach. “Raven and Natalie ran season bests by 20 seconds each, while Makayla was within 10 seconds of her best time. Jacob got another PR to get closer to breaking the 20-minute mark. He and Luke continue to run most of the race together, and we’ll be looking for them to improve together through October. Ian leg the JV race for about halfway, and ended up second and just three seconds behind the leader. He had a huge PR by 2:45! Jackson had a 60-second season best. Nice job everyone!”
