When you drive into Clarion on Highway 3, you will now be greeted by new welcome signs! There are two signs on the east and west side of town. Pictured here is the east sign, located right before the cemetery. The signs were commissioned by the Clarion Chamber and made by Nagel Signs out of Marshalltown. Chamber Director Ali Disney said the signs cost about $21,000 and were funded by events like the Chamber golf outing and hoedown in addition to grant money from the hotel/motel tax and Wright County Charitable Foundation. Private donors also contributed. Since the signs are aluminum, Disney says they will hopefully last for years. They also are lit at night. Disney emphasized, “The signs are the first thing people see when they come to town. It establishes a good first impression and also gives residents something to be proud of.” Photo by Bridget Shileny
