It’s the time of the year to start thinking about the Golden Apple Excellence in Education award.
The Golden Apple Charitable Foundation was started in 1999. The purpose is to recognize outstanding teachers in the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows school system.
Certified full-time preschool through 12th grade teachers who have completed one full year within the C-G-D district are eligible, including guidance counselors, media and technology specialists, and all special area teachers. Prior recipients become eligible again after five years. Parents, colleagues, students, and community members can nominate.
All nominees receive recognition certificates and a lapel pin. The Golden Apple Charitable Foundation Award of $1,000 will be presented on May 5th at an appreciation coffee at the high school at 2:30 p.m.
If you wish to nominate an outstanding teacher to receive the Golden Apple Excellence in Education Award, visit www.clargold.org and click the Golden Apple link to fill out an online application. Those who wish for assistance nominating can ask at the Clarion Public Library, and paper applications are also available at the banks in town. Paper applications can be mailed to the Golden Apple Steering Committee, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows CSD, 329 Third Avenue NE, Clarion, IA 50525.
Since 1999, over a dozen Golden Apple Awards have been presented. Several changes have been made throughout the years. The steering committee presently consists of seven members. The nomination process has moved from a paper only with supporting letters of recommendation to an on-line nomination process available on the school’s website.
The Golden Apple steering committee will be accepting nominations from February 1, 2021 through April 1, 2021.
