The Cowboy wrestling team traveled to Guthrie Center last Saturday for a tournament hosted by Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center. The Cowboys utilized four champions and a total of 10 top-five finishers to take the team title with 243 points. They were followed in the top five of 16 teams by Woodward-Granger with 180, Southeast Valley with 157, Van Meter/Earlham with 143.5 and Riverside, Oakland with 117.5. Reed Abbas (138), Remi Hanson (145), Bryce Allen (152) and Garrett Seaba (170) all ended the day wearing gold medals. Abbas defeated Jimenez (Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas) 10-5 in the finals, while Hanson pinned Christensen (Nodaway Valley) in 1:11 to take his bracket. Allen won by fall in 1:21 over Rowley (AC/GC) in his final match, with Seaba winning his bracket with a fall in 3:03 over Dierking (SW/MD).
Cale Kirstein (132) settled for second after losing an 8-6 overtime decision to Drake (VM/E), while both Nash Lienemann (195) and Kain Nelson (220) took third. Lienemann earned his by pinning Kathman (Ogden) in 26 seconds in his final match of the day, while Nelson used a fall in 21 seconds over Dierking (SW/MD).
