CGD Speakers earn ‘one’ rating at state contest

CGD High School Seniors Jaidyn Lockwood, Kara Legleiter, and Nicole Lorenzo (left to right) participated in the IHSSA Large Group State Speech contest on Saturday, February 6, in Hampton, Iowa. Their choral reading, "Dear Anxiety," inspired by Clayton Jennings' poem of the same name, reflected their anxiety experiences. COVID 19 has provided many opportunities for anxiety to run rampant this year – this was their way of talking back to it and taking back their power. Due to COVID concerns, the event, which would normally be held in Decorah with upwards of twenty districts participating, was broken into smaller groupings. Hampton-Dumont schools volunteered to host about eight local districts. In this way, the students still got to do live performances, although in a less crowded setting. The girls received two I ratings and one II rating for an overall rating of one. A "1" rating means that the group did an excellent job. The students are coached by Tamara EnTin. Photo provided
