Supervisors canvas special election votes at meeting

At the Monday meeting of the Wright County Board of Supervisors, Chairman Karl Helgevold gave a brief update on COVID in the county on behalf of Sandy McGrath. The county sat at 1,809 cases as of Monday. McGrath said that cases have been on the rise, so she encourages people to be vigilant about mask wearing and other mitigation steps. Last week it was reported that the county would be receiving 1,100 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Out of those doses, 750 have already been given in the county to manufacturing positions with the rest planned to be administered soon. McGrath had also noted that with the Eagle Grove pharmacy receiving vaccine, the Clarion and Belmond areas have been allotted more doses to keep things even.

The board held a canvas for the special election held for the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Community School district. The proposition to adopt a new Revenue Purpose Statement passed. 345 voted throughout the district, up from 31 last time this vote was conducted. The board will again have to canvas votes next week after they receive the votes that were cast in Franklin County.

The board approved appointments for Civil Process Servers for Sheila Cordero, Leah Johnson, Lance Austin, April Meier, David Demory, Kristyn Hennigar, Sue Mikesh, Katie McCormick, Hannah Stensland, Debra Stewart, and Braden Deal. The also approved appointments for Deputies, including Jeremy Hogrefe, Adam Nerlien, Anthony Pieczko, Darren Robinson, Barry Huedepohl, Jeremy Dodge, Steven Cram, Joshua Smock, Raymond Zeien, Brit (Narcotics Canine), and Patricia Barz (Deputy Clerk, Office Manager).

In other business, the board approved a liquor license for Oak Ridge Recreation Corporation in Goldfield. They also approved the Sheriff’s revenue report. A public hearing to hear the engineer’s report on planned work to drainage district 194 was set for March 29.  County Engineer Adam Clemons noted that the rock and gravel program will be starting up again soon throughout the county.
