Iowa Select Farms gives back on National Ag Day

Iowa Select Farms celebrated Iowa’s farmers by stocking freezers across Wright County with 1,380 pounds of ground pork on March 23, National Ag Day. The three stops in Dows, Eagle Grove and Belmond were three of nine that Iowa Select Farms made around north central Iowa to donate enough meat for 17,120 pork burgers.

“As farmers, we are honored to put delicious food on Iowans’ tables,” said Jen Sorenson, Communications Director for Iowa Select Farms. “Every day, our 1,200 employees and 650 contractors go to work in these communities, and it is always a pleasure to give back.” The Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation added to the donations with baby supplies from its Henry’s Heroes program.

The donations were in response to an invitation by Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig to carry out acts of community service on National Ag Day in recognition of the important role of farmers and farming in Iowa.

“Each year, National Ag Day provides a unique opportunity to highlight the people who make the agriculture community so special,” Secretary Naig said. “While the past year has brought unprecedented challenges that required unprecedented responses, it also cast a spotlight on the important role agriculture plays in the food chain, and showed the resilience, innovation and willingness of Iowa’s agriculture community to give back.”
