On Monday, March 29, the CGD High School band students performed in a Solo Festival held at the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School. This music festival was designed to take the place of the IHSMA Solo & Small Ensemble Festival that we have attended in past years. To preserve the integrity of a “State Approved” festival, IHSMA approved/certified judges were hired to adjudicate the music events, the IHSMA guidelines were followed, and the format used was identical to the IHSMA event. There are many benefits to hosting our own festival but one of the primary goals was to see a larger amount of family and friends attend to watch the students perform. It is important to support our music students and the performing arts in our schools. If you did not attend, I would recommend it for the future. These students are doing amazing things! We were able to meet this goal and hope to see even more family and friends attend in future years. Thanks to everyone who came out to support the music students. A special thank you to Jennifer Littlejohn for the many hours they spent rehearsing with the students and accompanying them at the festival.
The CGD High School Band received (17) Division I “Superior” Ratings (1 of which were Perfect scores) and (10) Division II “Excellent” Ratings (7 of which were 1 point short of the Superior Rating) . The “Best in Center” Award for Center 1 went to Caden Hankins for his Trombone solo, and Center 2 went to Clarissa Hasty for her Alto Saxophone solo. Congratulations to the Band students on achieving this high level of performance! You all worked hard, were well prepared, performed to the best of your ability, and represented CGD HS extremely well!
