At the Tuesday, April 20 Clarion City Council meeting, two new ordinances were read. The first was the third and final reading of Ordinance 605 that amends zoning regulations. This ordinance mostly deals with rules governing accessory buildings. Some changes had been made regarding how big accessory buildings can be in relation to property. The ordinance was adopted.
The first reading of Ordinance 606 was also held. This ordinance deals with sump pump discharge. According to the ordinance, “No discharge pipe shall discharge onto any of the City’s rights-of-way, sidewalks and/or streets.” There will be two more readings of the ordinance before it is adopted. Both Ordinances 605 and 606 can be read in their entirety on the city’s Facebook page.
City Administrator Clint Middleton reported on the recipients of grants from the Hotel/Motel Committee. Just over $6,600 was granted to three businesses. The Clarion Locker received $2,500 for their expansion and new signage; the Clarion Theater received $2,000 to go towards their new projector and The Red Shed Event Center was granted around $2,100 for outdoor seating.
The council discussed the matter of removing straw from the Spec Building site that had been applied by Daybreak Foods. Middleton reiterated that Daybreak is no longer acquiring that property. He added that he had tried to contact their management multiple times about removing the straw but had been unable to reach anyone. City Attorney Zach Chizek will be reaching out to the company.
The group also talked about updating the city’s parks. Public Works Director Jon DeVries noted that park equipment is expensive, and efforts need to be made to allocate funding to them if any progress is going to happen. The parks committee made a plan to meet in the near future.
In other business, a resolution for a second pay request for the CDBG housing rehabilitation program was approved in the amount of $8,754.40. The board went in to closed session to discuss “the purchase or sale of real estate.”
