Cowgirl track & field competes at W. City, Belmond

Last Thursday at Webster City, the Cowgirls competed at the Lady Lynx Invite. Iowa Falls-Alden took the team title in a close finish as the top three teams were separated by only seven points. Highlights were-

The JV team took fourth and just six points out of third place.

On Friday the ladies were in Belmond for a meet won by South Hamilton with 147 points. Finishing just behind the Hawks were the Cowgirls with a 135 total. The rest were as follows: West Hancock 117, Belmond-Klemme 103, Lake Mills 95 and Hampton-Dumont/CAL with 49 points.

Middleton (shot), Conlon (100) and Trca (400 hurdles) were all winners along with the 4×4 relay.

“We can’t seem to have a meet that is warm or calm,” stated head coach Monty Harker. “So far all our meets have been fairly cool and windy. I think the girls have done a great job in dealing with the elements all year. I like the way we have responded to being put in the toughest district in the state. We have run some of our fastest times the last couple meets. I am very impressed with how we have scored as a team in the Webster City and B-K meets in getting second place with only about 14 girls running, which is very impressive to me. Morgan has broken both school throwing records and is looking really good in leading the district in both events. Matea has rebounded from her first couple meets and looks very good in the 100. As of right now, she has the second-fastest time in 2A. Some of our best relays have been the 4×4 and shuttle hurdle, with some excellent times so far this year. It’s going to be an interesting finish to the season, as we have two meets this week followed by the conference meet and then the qualifier.”
