Cowboy track & field go to three meets in past week

The weather finally cooperated for the Cowboys as they were able to get in three meets in the past week. It all started Tuesday in Garner as Central Springs took the title at the Cardinal Relays with 142 points. They were followed in the top five of 11 teams by Belmond-Klemme with 103, North Butler with 97, West Fork with 81 and North Union with 75 points. The Cowboys finished ninth with 39 points.

The highlight for the night was Nevan Foss winning the high jump with a personal best of 6’ 1”. Two other strong efforts resulted in fourth place finishes in both events. Mason Allen tossed the discus 119 feet even, while Mateo Martinez, Foss. Jacob Ingebritson and Rigo Bobadilla on anchor toured the track in 1:38.63 in the 4×2 relay.

The home team took the title at the Norseman Relays on Thursday with 79.50 points. They were followed by: South Tama County 41, Aplington-Parkersburg 35, South Hamilton 28, Ballard 26.50, C-G-D 26, Greene County 22 and Ogden 22.

The Cowboys ran a limited number of events, but still came away with some good finishes. Foss was second in the high jump, Mateo Martinez third in the 100 dash with a season best 11.57 and Isaiah Nebbe came home fifth in the 3200 at 11:35.01.

They wrapped it up with the Clary Invitational hosted by South Hardin on Friday in Eldora. The home team won the title with 184 points, followed by Collins-Maxwell at 145, AGWSR at 106 and C-G-D at 102.

“We finally had a nice night to jump, throw and run,” said head coach Ben Lindaman. “It showed as many of our athletes had their personal bests so far this year. Foss took another win in the high jump and freshman Caden had his best placing of the year in the shot put. Mason continues to improve in discus. It was also good to see a lot of improvement in the past week from our young freshmen and sophomore field event athletes. It makes me excited for the years to come. Isaiah had his best runs, the 4×1 won with their best time of the year and the 4×4 finished off the night with a thrilling come from behind first place finish.”
