Supervisors talk drainage district reclassification

In the COVID update during Monday’s Wright County Board of Supervisors meeting, Sandy McGrath noted that the county was at 1,823 cases as of Monday. She added that healthcare personnel throughout the county has administered 9,748 vaccine doses. 36.4% of the county is now vaccinated. Clinics continue throughout the county with earlier morning hours and evening hours now available. McGrath said that the county did receive more Johnson & Johnson doses that they will be making available soon. She emphasized, “Vaccination is an important tool in getting this pandemic down to a reasonable level to where we can go out and about like normal.”

The board discussed a possible reclassification of some ground in drainage district 16, which is located on the south end of Eagle Grove. The original classification in the early 1900s included flow paths that should have been part of DD 15. Now there is some question as to which land should be in which district. County Drainage Clerk Courtney Morris said correct classification is important so landowners are properly assessed and getting the benefits they are paying for in the proper district. The board still had a number of questions on the matter and decided to table it until next week and talk to county drainage attorney Dave Johnson in the meantime.

They also revisited a possible elevator project for the Wright County Resource Center (formerly the Professional Building). The county wants to explore the costs of putting in an elevator and making the building more ADA compliant. They elected to go with the firm Accord Architecture out of Mason City for preliminary exploration and drawings. This will cost an estimated $4,900.

The supervisors had a brief discussion about county redistricting. Redistricting is required every ten years after the census and can affect supervisor seats. (Individual county census results in Iowa are not yet available). The board is responsible for helping establish a redistricting committee. The committee will eventually meet to decide on district maps that are prepared by Pathfinders (formerly MIDAS). The board will suggest committee members at next week’s meeting.
