The Cowboy track & field team will be represented this week in Des Moines by Isaiah Nebbe in the 3200 and the shuttle hurdle relay team following 2A qualifying meet action at Hudson last Thursday.
Dike-New Hartford easily took the team title with 139.50 points. They were followed in the top five of 12 teams by Forest City with 98.50, Aplington-Parkersburg with 87, Central Springs with 76 and Iowa Falls-Alden with 68.50. The Cowboys were 10th with 29.50 points.
Nebbe finished third in the 3200, just one spot out of an automatic advance, but had a good enough time state-wide to make it in. The shuttle entry of Nevan Foss, Connor State, Preston Gardner and Christian Gaytan on anchor ran a nice 1:04.31 but were only third in a tough field. They will move on based on their time state-wide. Other nice finishes saw Mateo Martinez fourth in the 100 dash and Foss fifth in the high jump.
“Isaiah set another personal best,” stated head coach Ben Lindaman. “The leader set a nice pace, and so Isaiah was able to qualify as they take the next eight best times from the districts. Nevan had an off night in the high jump. We were hoping to get him qualified as well. Fortunately, he has two more years. The heartbreaker on us on the night was Christian Gaytan in the high hurdles. He was in second place until he hit the ninth hurdle and fell. He was starting to really come along late in the season in the event. Fortunately for both of them, they are in the shuttle hurdle relay so will go in that event.”
