CGD competes well at this year’s State Meet

After being denied their State Track & Field Meet a year ago, the Cowgirls and Cowboys, and for that matter all the student-athletes statewide that were present, were glad to be back as even a very wet Thursday did little to dampen the enthusiasm of running on the big blue oval once again.

Matea Conlon posted a 27.60 for 21st in the 2A 200 dash. Not satisfied with that, the sophomore put her speed on full display in finishing seventh in 12.91 in her 100 dash prelim race. That was good enough to lock up a spot in the finals. She will no doubt be hungry for more time on that track next May. Isaiah Nebbe then went out and brought home a 19th place finish in 10:50.15 in the 3200. In field events on opening day, Morgan Middleton threw the shot 36’ 8.5” for 10th place. Makenna Hasty leaped out to 16’ 2.5” for 11th in the long jump. Unfortunately, sometimes you take a little bad with the good. The Cowboy shuttle hurdle relay had a DNF in their run. Those runners were Gardner, State, Gaytan and Foss. Great season guys.

Friday saw Middleton take 12th with a 117’ 05” discus best mark. The Cowgirl 4×4 entry of Conlon, Lienemann, M. Hasty and Kinnetz toured the track in 4:12.75 for 12th in the prelims, which was not fast enough to make the finals. That set the stage for Saturday and Conlon ending the show for the Cowgirls in grand fashion. Congratulations to all of them for their accomplishments. They represented CGD with class!
