After not being able to hold the twice a year clean-up for over a year and a half, last week’s event was more than well received. Members of the Clarion Pride-Good Neighbor Association who organize the clean-up said they were continuously busy throughout Friday and Saturday, even in the rain. Clarion Pride member Peggy O’Neill said, “With apologies to those we had to turn away, we were overwhelmed, out of space, and constricted by a tight time-frame on Saturday morning. The landfill closes early on Saturdays and the Trash Man, who must follow the guidelines, needed to drive the fully-packed, large green dumpsters to the landfill to dump and then return to dump the second one.”
The Clarion Pride-Good Neighbor Association wanted to thank all the volunteers who worked so hard. The Hagie management team led by Councilman Dave Maxheimer lifted a heavy piano as well as many appliances and furniture pieces, the Centrum Valley team led by Mike Bowman who moved back-breaking steel objects and appliances, and the amazing community volunteers: Diane Edwards, Denise Foss, Pastor Dana Wendel, Councilman Andy Young, Mayor Duane Asbe made it all happen. The Clarion Pride/Good Neighbor volunteers: Ted and Linda Brigger, Carol Townsend, Carolyn and Denny Bowman, Peggy O'Neill appreciate all the hard work. Thanks to grounded for the donation of boxed lunches, Kathy Deimerly for the donation of sandwiches and cookies, and Bud Young for the pizza, we were able to feed the volunteers on Friday and Saturday morning.
A second pick-up will be planned for the fall.
