Iowa River Players Theater reopens with fun show!

Local community theater is back in Wright County! Iowa River Players Theater in Rowan is ready to pull the curtain on their newest play, “Robin Hood & the Babes in the Woods,” showing the next two weekends.

The re-opening of Iowa River Players will feature a play that is designed for fun for all ages. This version of the story written by Ben Crocker of Bristol, England, is of course based on the popular folk hero, Robin Hood and his Lady Marion, but also adds in another fun tale: the Babes in the Woods, a traditional children's tale about two ‘babes’ abandoned in the woods.

The cast features over a dozen experienced and new actors from across north central Iowa, many of them youths. The production’s director, Luanne Krabbe, describes the show as “A little bit circus and a little bit rock and roll. There is something for everyone to love about this show. There are jokes for the parents and jokes for the kids!”

The show also features music, stunts, dancing and exciting stage effects. Krabbe also added that audience participation in the play is strongly encouraged. The audience helps out by catching the candies that are thrown from the stage and that's just the beginning of the fun.

After a forced break over the last year, Krabbe says all involved are happy to be back in business at the theater. “Everyone is so excited. These young people have been great to work with. They’re happy to be back,”

“Robin Hood & the Babes in the Woods” is showing the next two weekends, Friday through Sunday, June 18 – 20 and 25 – 27. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 pm and Sunday matinees are at 2:00 pm. Tickets will be available at the door and on their new website when that is up and running.

If you have been missing out on parades, laughter and the Iowa River Players, come and help them celebrate!
