Cowboys get first win of season 11-9 over H-D/CAL

The Cowboy baseball team was down 9-0 after the top of the third inning, and could have easily folded their tent at that point. But these guys wanted that first taste of victory and to give coach Nail his initial career win at the school he played for. To their credit, they rolled up their sleeves and went to work with a seven-run third and tacked on four more in the fifth for an 11-9 win. This kind of game should pay them dividends the rest of the way.

On Tuesday they lost 8-2 to visiting Rockford. Gardner and Foss scored the runs with P. Chase bringing one of those runs in. Martinez went 2 for 4, C. Chase 2 for 3 and Allen smacked a double in his lone connection. Gardner went 1 for 2, and both him and Jackson crossed the plate once. Foss stole a base.

C. Chase took the loss on the hill, going 6 1/3 with three earned on eight hits. He walked two, hit a batter and rocketed six K’s across the plate. P. Gardner pitched the rest, giving up four earned on three hits. He walked two, hit a batter and had one strikeout.

In other action last week, they lost 13-3 at Algona and 4-1 at Lake Mills. Final stats for both games were not yet posted at press time.
