Cowgirls trying hard for second win of season

With regional play just around the corner, the Cowgirls would like nothing better than to find their second win of the season that might propel them on a roll entering the tournament trail. They visited neighboring Eagle Grove last Tuesday and found the host team not too hospitable in a 15-5 loss. They were to come back from a 9-0 deficit to cut into the lead and make it 9-5, but that would be as close as they got for the rest of the night.

Kaylie Dow had the strong bat on the night, going 2 for 3 with a run scored. Clarissa Hasty and Brooke Askelsen also reached on base hits, with Brooke driving in two runs and both Mady Hennigar and C. Hasty one apiece. MacKenna Hasty, Dow, Indy Johnson, Hennigar and Askelsen all crossed the plate.

M. Hasty, Kennedy Trca and Karlee Lehman all drew a walk each, with C. Hasty and Kendall Lienemann each getting hit by a pitch to advance. Kennedy, Indy and Mady all reached on an error. Trca showed her speed on the base paths in grabbing three steals, with Clarissa and MacKenna adding one apiece.

Alaina Friesleben threw five innings, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits. She walked six, hit three batters and struck out four batters.

Prior to that, they lost a 26-16 home game with Humboldt. The Wildcats were up 16-11 after three were complete, with the Cowgirls rally in the fourth making it 18-16 Humboldt at the end of that inning. The Wildcats then sealed the win by busting the ball for eight runs in the fifth. Lienemann stroked a double, with Trca and Hennigar getting a base hit each. C. Hasty crossed the dish four times, with M. Hasty, Johnson and Hennigar scoring three runs each. The team took advantage of 15 walks, with M. Hasty, Lehman and Johnson drawing three free passes and C. Hasty two.

Friesleben allowed 15 earned on 11 hits with five walks and two strikeouts. Nyla Wibholm gave up eight earned on seven hits, with five walks and one strikeout.

A road trip to Rogers Sports Complex on Wednesday saw St. Edmond take a 10-0 win. A base hit by Hennigar, along with a sac fly by Askelsen, were the only connections of the night. Wibholm allowed 10 earned on nine hits with eight walks and one strikeout.
