Cowgirls keep it close before losing at Parkersburg

It was a moral victory of sorts in the Cowgirls first round regional matchup with the home team Aplington-Parkersburg. The Falcons squeaked out an 11-9 win, but the Cowgirls were within reach of the victory in taking an 8-6 lead into the fifth inning following a five-run outburst.

Kendall Lienemann was 3 for 5 with a double and two RBI. Clarissa Hasty was 2 for 5 with a double and RBI. Mady Hennigar was 2 for 2 and scored two runs, while Indy Johnson also crossed the dish twice. MacKenna Hasty and Brooke Askelsen were both 2 for 5, with both scoring a run and Brooke getting credit for an RBI. Kennedy Trca got a base hit and drove in two runs. Kaylie Dow drew four walks. Askelsen, C. Hasty and Lienemann stole two bags each, with M. Hasty and Dow grabbing one base apiece.

Karlee Lehman pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits with three walks, three hit batters and a strikeout. Alaina Friesleben threw for 1 2/3 innings, allowing one earned on one hit with two walks, two hit batters and three K’s. Ady Askelsen put in 1 2/3 innings in the circle, giving up one earned on three hits with three walks and two hit batters.

The team finishes at 1-22, with Friesleben and Lienemann plying their final game in a Cowgirl softball uniform.
