“Smokey and the Bandit” at Clarion Theater during truck show

Whether you recognize it from Burt Reynold’s iconic black Pontiac Firebird or know the song “Eastbound and Down,” the 1977 movie “Smokey and the Bandit” is a classic. However, most people likely haven’t seen it in the movie theater for a long time or ever. Next week, you will get the chance to see that movie on the big screen!

The Clarion Movie Theater plans to show “Smokey and the Bandit” next weekend in conjunction with the Pride in the Heartland Truck Show that will take place Saturday, July 24 and Sunday, July 25. Theater Manager LeeAnn Johnson said she talked to her board about showing the movie when the truck show organizers asked if the theater would like to participate in some way in the big weekend of events. Everyone agreed that the classic movie that involves trucking would be a great choice.

Regular ticket prices for the movie will apply but any tips and donations given at the theater will go to the Clarion Fire Department, as will all profits from the truck show. Johnson noted that it’s important for the theater to “pay it forward” in Clarion since they have also benefited from help over the last year.

Melinda Anderson of Ennis Corp., one of the truck show’s main organizers and sponsors, said, “We are excited to see our town ‘gearing up for the truck show.’ It’s so fun to see another great addition to the show with the showing of the movie! This is an event our entire town should be proud of and we hope everyone comes out to support our fire department. The donations coming in for the show and auction have been great to see.”

Anderson added that there are many fun activities planned throughout truck show weekend. “We will have the Taco Shack on site Saturday night and Sunday, the Kona Ice Truck, plus special treats at Granny’s Market, snacks at the theatre, kids activities and more.”

Johnson said to check back regarding show times for “Smokey and the Bandit” closer to truck show weekend.
