The Pride in the Heartland Truck Show this past weekend in Clarion was the hot event in town. This was the fourth year for the show. Yes, the thermometer was pushing 90 degrees, but that didn’t stop truckers and locals alike from coming out for the worthwhile cause.
It was a busy weekend of fun. From the theater showing “Smokey and the Bandit” to kids games and a street dance, there were events for the whole family. The truck show, organized by Ennis Corp. and Fuel Coal Fired Pizza and sponsored by many area businesses, acts as a fund-raiser for the Clarion Fire Department.
Between donations before the show and funds collected over the weekend, Melinda Anderson of Ennis Corps said they gathered over $25,000 in donations for the department. This by far surpasses past years’ numbers. Fire Chief Pat McCormick noted that they are very grateful for all donations and funds received and generally will be using them for new equipment.
For the weekend’s main event, the truck show, that too was a record-breaker. 38 trucks participated in different parts of the show. Top winners included: Best Lights- Jay Cramer of Mitch Lee, Inc. 2000 & Older truck- Scott Anderson, Scott Anderson Trucking. 2001 & Newer- Aaron Walters, Walters Transport. Local Boys- Ty Gardner, IMT. Farthest Traveled- William Carroll, Diamond Bar C Trucking from McCloud, Oklahoma. People’s Choice- TJ Kounkel, Kounkel Trucking. And Best in Show- Aaron Walters, Walters Transport.
