At last Tuesday’s Clarion City Council meeting, Larry Harrah to the oath of office to install him as Clarion’s newest councilmember. This came about due to Jim Williams recently resigning the position.
City Administrator Clint Middleton explained that, by law, a council seat must be filled in less than 60 days. He added that Harrah was the only person to show interest in the seat after notice was given of it being open.
Though there is less than five months left on the term of office that Harrah just assumed, he still plans to work hard for Clarion. Harrah, who has been a Clarionite since 1996, said he is excited about the position and knows he has a lot to learn.
Harrah works for Hennigar Construction currently and said that job puts him in a good place to understand city infrastructure and building projects. He added that his past work experiences have given him customer relations skills, in addition to knowledge of budgets and projections.
In the short-term, Harrah said his goals will be to get comfortable with meetings and the committees he will be on. In the long-term, he noted that he does plan to run for the council spot in the upcoming election. Should he win, Harrah would like to work to help with beautification in Clarion as well as the childcare issue and attracting new businesses.
At the meeting last Tuesday, Harrah’s fellow councilmembers hardily welcomed him aboard. Mayor Duane Asbe thanked Harrah for his willingness to serve and wished him the best.
Harrah says that if citizens would like to meet him or have concerns that he can help address, he would love to chat with them.
