Sarah Rasmussen, Wright County was awarded the Career 4-H Scholarship through the Iowa 4-H Foundation at the recognition ceremony Sunday, July 11 in Ames.
The Iowa 4-H Foundation has announced the recipients of over 100 Iowa 4-H scholarships valued at nearly $120,000. Recipients accepted their awards on Sunday, July 11 at the Foundation’s scholarship recognition ceremony held in the Scheman Building at Iowa State University. Over 300 applications were submitted and scholarships have been awarded to recipients from 49 counties across the state of Iowa with a wide variety of 4-H experiences.
Sarah is the daughter of Scott and Jennifer Rasmussen and is pursuing family and consumer sciences education at Iowa State University. She was inspired to pursue this career in order to apply the skills in areas of both leadership and creative projects which she gained through 4-H. Rasmussen also knows there is currently a shortage of educators in the area of family and consumer sciences, and has learned to serve the needs of others through 4-H.
“In high school the creative skills I learned in 4-H led me to taking an independent sewing class my senior year,” said Rasmussen. “I still use the leadership skills I learned in 4-H today by being a paraeducator in the community school district teaching my students some of the skills I learned.”
Provided by Shirley Stakey, this scholarship is for a former 4-H’er who will be an ISU junior or senior next academic year and is studying any major in the ISU College of Human Sciences.
