At their meeting on Tuesday, August 17, the Clarion City Council took up a variety of measures related to the planned water treatment plant again. The first was a public hearing for the submission of a Community Development Block Grant for the project. The required hearing announcements that were read noted that the city is requesting $600,000 in CDBG funds for the project, that is estimated to cost a total of $7.3 million. No public comments were made during the hearing and none had been received previously.
In other related measures, two resolutions were passed committing matching funds for the water treatment project and endorsing the submission of the CDBG grant application. The council tabled a CD renewal item.
In individual reports, City Administrator Clint Middleton noted that he is continuing to talk to various local and county officials about the matter of childcare. Plans also continue to move forward on the pocket park at the old Duran Building location on Central Avenue.
Director of Public Works, Jon DeVries, said he is working with vendors for pricing on replacement trees for the parks and is also applying for a grant that can be used for trees.
