The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows school board held their regular meeting on Monday, November 8.
At the meeting, the district presented a special recognition to outgoing board member Beth Jackson, who is retiring from the school board after 14 years.
"Finding somebody that's willing to commit fourteen years to a school district is unheard of," said Superintendent Joe Nelson. "What Beth has done for our school district and school is commendable. I'm really proud of her."
The board also welcomed the newly elected Kelly Kirstein to the board, along with congratulating incumbents Beth Severson and Megan Ring on their re-elections.
In regular business, the board approved School Budget Review Committee applications to authorize an increase in spending authority for the year due to an increase in certified enrollment. When school districts see an increase in funds, that money cannot be spent until a corresponding increase in spending authority is also approved.
The district is asking for a modified supplemental amount of $280,601, along with $44,404 for the purchase of an English Language Learning program.
The board also approved the Spanish class to take a trip to Costa Rica in 2023. In personnel matters, the board approved the resignation of elementary para-educator Melissa Smith, Head Volleyball Coach Katrina TerHark, and JV Volleyball Coach Laura Odland. The board also approved new contracts for Jeff Meyer and Ryan Nail to split Freshman Boys Basketball Coaching duties.
It was also reported that ISG Inc. has been hired to plan the renovation of the Kids Korner Space at a cost of 9.5% of the total contract price.
