CGD Cowboys clobber Eagles 61-28

What better way to open the season for CGD than a Cowboy conquest as they crush their way through the beginning of the 2021/2022 season! With a persistent fight from the Eagles, they were no match for the Cowboys. The team consisted of ten seniors, two juniors, and one sophomore who contributed to the team’s ultimate success that Monday night. The understanding of everyone’s positioning was key in the game, as was the chemistry among them, especially the seniors. Not only was the chemistry alive and evident during the classic matchup, but it proved the experience-level among the players and how it exceeded the young Eagles team.

SR Jaxon Carpenter scored the most points, as he delivered 23 with 7 rebounds, the second highest for the team. SR Connor State contributed the most rebounds, 8, for the team, and also scored 12, the second most points for the team, along with SR Coady Olson. SR Landon Olson delivered defensively with four steals, two blocks, as well as offensively as he managed to score two points, three rebounds, and three assists. It seemed as if SR Coady Olson ensured he had the final play in nearly every quarter as he sprinted to the other side of the court with no one near, and ended the first quarter with two extra points for the Cowboys, sealing it with a twelve point lead. Just before half-time, Coady Olson yet again delivered another two points for the Cowboys as he finished the first half with a 31-8 lead. Perhaps the torch was passed during the third quarter, as Coady Olson started off the second half scoring for the Cowboys with Jaxon Carpenter, this time, having the final say to end the third quarter, making it 57-20.
With the Eagles acquiring such a young team, only losing three seniors next year, some could say this result is slightly understandable given the fact that the Cowboys have much more experience and chemistry as a unit. Although, for next year, the Cowboys will unfortunately lose a handful of players as more than half of their team consists of seniors.

Current junior and upcoming senior, Nevan Foss is prepared as he invests himself in both JV and Varsity basketball. After discussing the Cowboys’ fantastic start to the season, Foss describes the preparation for facing a team the second time around, explaining, “The second time we play a team we usually know who their key players were and what they like to do so we prepare for that, sometimes we will practice some different things if they did a good job stopping something the first game.”

The Cowboys seek a second triumph in the season as they host fellow conference team, St. Edmond on Friday, December 3 at 7:30 PM.
