CGD Cowgirls conquer Eagle Grove 53-27

Almost like it’s tradition, the Cowgirls walked out of the Eagle Grove gymnasium victoriously after dominating the Eagle Grove Eagles 53-27. For the past 14 years, the Eagles have only managed to triumph over the Cowgirls three times during each season. Every clash, one can only imagine the determination of both teams regarding their history, as they hope to either repeat the past, or rewrite the future.

Less instructions during defense was clear during the Cowgirls and Eagles matchup, as the Cowgirls pressed continuously throughout the game, repeatedly denying opportunities and dominating the scoreboard, shot-after-shot. Not only did the Cowgirls remain aggressive, they maintained stellar chemistry between each other. Taking advantage of key opportunities, while working together as a team, the Cowgirls invested themselves into the assurance of a second victory for the 2021/2022 winter season. The drive and desire for the game was evident amongst the players. One example of this was JR Lexie Lane, who scored a record high of 36 points last game. Shortly after being subbed out later in the game, Coach Ennis informed her by saying, “Whenever you’re ready.” Without an ounce of hesitation, Lane stated that she was ready. Taking a quick sip of water, she ditched the bench and awaited her time to be subbed back in.

SR Nikki Kapka carried the team with most rebounds, 8, while also contributing four assists, and four steals with two blocks. Leading the charts with most points were JR Kennedy Trca, 18, JR Lexie Lane, 12, and SO Sawyer Morrical with 11.

Though the absence of seniors Delia Swanson and Summer Traub occurred on Monday night’s game, the Cowgirls carried on with another victory.

The urgency from the Cowgirls never once ceased, as they transitioned from the end of the third quarter to the end of the fourth quarter, adding 10 points to the scoreboard while only letting up 6 by the Eagles. Though the game ended in a 53-27 win for the Cowgirls, the Eagle Grove players proved their passion to the sport, as they continued to give it their all with just minutes-then seconds left on the scoreboard with the fans cheering them on until the very end. But when the time ticked, and the buzzer buzzed, it was only the CGD Cowgirls who claimed the victory.

Currently sitting in first for the North Central conference standings, the Cowgirls will be chasing for a third straight win and first conference win, as they host St. Edmond on Friday, December 3 at 6:15 PM.
