Cowgirls brushed aside by Broncos 51-38

Belmond-Klemme’s Broncos brought the Cowgirls to a second consecutive loss on Thursday night, as they defeated the Cowgirls 51-38.

After a tough loss to Clear Lake earlier in the week, the Cowgirls were shooting to bounce back as they battled the Belmond Broncos, hoping to capture a 5-1 record. The Broncos had other plans for the Cowgirls, however, as they took off in the first quarter, scoring 13 points. The Cowgirls managed to score six in the first, as they continued their drive. The second quarter was the same for the Cowgirls, as they whipped another six points onto the scoreboard. The Broncos scored three more points than they did in the first, ending the first half with a 29-12 lead.

“I always try to begin by pointing out positives before I present changes or adjustments that need to be made,” Coach Liz Ennis explained, and with a game such as this-losing by 17 points at half time-helpful adjustments with the recognition of positive playmaking and confidence boosting, is important.

Ennis’ words rolled into action as the second half began with the Cowgirls charging through the third quarter. 14 points were scored by the Cowgirls in the third quarter, more than the entire first half of their points combined. The Broncos scored their lowest of the game, adding 10 points to the scoreboard while maintaining their dominance with an 11 point lead at 39-28. The fourth and final quarter saw 12 points scored by both teams, as the drive for victory never ceased from the Cowgirls. It wasn’t the Cowgirls who went home with the win. The Broncos leveled the record with the Cowgirls, sending them their second straight loss of the season.

The game ended 51-38, and it wasn’t the result the Cowgirls were hoping for after their crushing defeat from the Lions. With four straight wins, the Cowgirls won’t be aiming for a third straight loss as they host conference competitor Cadets on Friday, December 17, at 6:15 PM.
