CGD Cowboys comeback; results at Ames

It’s never over until it’s over.

The Cowboys hosted the Bulldogs Thursday night for a conference competitive dual meet. The Cowboys’ fight never faltered throughout the night. Beginning with the 195 lb class, Mason Allen lost his fight, getting pinned and giving Algona a 6-0 lead. Following Allen was Erick Perez, who fought extremely hard and stood with his opponent as he gained three points for the Cowboys. From the 285 lb weight class, Danny Chavez breezed through his dual, pinning his opponent in just 52 seconds. Thanks to Chavez, the Cowboys were up 9-6. After the quick pin from Chavez, the Cowboys struggled to gain more points after four consecutive losses from 113 lb class, Rigo Bobadilla, 109 lb class Dietrich Woodley, 120 lb class Jacob Ingebritson, and 126 lb class Ethan Traub. The Bulldogs were up 25-9 until 132 lb Caleb Seaba pinned his opponent down to give the Cowboys an additional six points. After Seaba, Cale Kirstein, 138 lb class, added four points for the Cowboys to make the score 25-19. After Kirstein’s victory, the Cowboys conceded two more losses from Luke Brownell and Jackson Beisel, putting the Bulldogs up 33-19. The Cowboys came back, however, with a hardfought pin from 160 lb class, Garrett Seaba. With the score 33-25, 170 lb class Mack Seaba committed a crucial pin, awarding another six points for the Cowboys. Only two points behind, nearly tasting victory, it was all down to 182 lb class Nash Lienemann. “If he wins, we win!” shouted the fans, as almost everyone stood on the edge of their seats. It wasn’t the Bulldogs who saw success that night as Nash Lienemann defeated his opponent after a long, hard fought battle. The Cowboys won the meet 35-33 with an amazing comeback.
