It was the first game of the new year, and it wasn’t a win for the Cowgirls.
The Cowgirls kicked off the new year battling conference rivals Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs on Friday night. The first quarter took off with points scored by both teams, though it were the Bulldogs who won the opening eight minutes. The Bulldogs scored 15 points in the first, while the Cowgirls scored nine. The Cowgirls added more pressure when the second half arrived, scoring 14 points and increasing their score to 23 at half-time. Though the Cowgirls delivered strongly before the first half concluded, the Bulldogs’ 19 points in the second quarter was too high for the Cowgirls to make a comeback as the Bulldogs were up 34-23 at half-time.
With the second half underway, both teams delivered the least amount of points in the third quarter. With only eight points scored by the Bulldogs, it could’ve been a capitalizing eight minutes for the Cowgirls who were in desperate need of buckets for a crucial comeback. However, the Cowgirls only managed to score seven points in the third, sealing their third quarter losing 42-30. The final quarter saw another impressive performance from the Cowgirls, as they scored 14 points to end their night with a total of 44 points while the Bulldogs scored 18. The game resulted in a 60-44 loss for the Cowgirls, as their record currently sits at 4-5 and 8-3 for the Bulldogs. Their next matchup is set for Monday, Jan. 10, at West Fork High School at 6:15 PM, and then Tuesday, Jan. 11, where they will face Pocahontas at Pocahontas at 6 PM.
