The Class 3A-Region 2 Quarterfinal saw the CGD Cowgirls facing the mighty Estherville Lincoln Central Midgets. Going into the game, the Cowgirls knew it was not going to be easy given the fact that the Midgets held a 20-2 record versus the 6-15 Cowgirls.
The game opened with sheer dominance from the Midgets. Though struggling to combat the Midgets, the Cowgirls fought back. Scoring six points, the Cowgirls conceded 17 to the Midgets. The second quarter saw similar performances from both teams as the Midgets scored 15 points over the Cowgirls. Four points were scored in the second quarter, as the first half came to an end with the Midgets holding a 32-10 lead.
Struggling to charge through the third quarter, the Cowgirls lacked power offensively and defensively as the Midgets dominated the entire third quarter. Unable to score a single point, the Cowgirls conceded 15 before its end. Down 47-10, the Cowgirls and Midgets entered the fourth quarter. The last eight minutes of the game concluded the match, as the Midgets scored 12 points while the Cowgirls scored six.
The game ended 59-16 with the Midgets on top, and heading to the semi-final where they will face Hampton-Dumont-CAL on Feb. 16.
The seniors ended their final basketball season with CGD, as it was an emotional ending to the season. This would be the last season for seniors Nikki Kapka, Olyvia Olson, Kaylie Dow, Delia Swanson, and Summer Traub.
