Supervisors discuss past drainage issues

During the Monday meeting of the Wright County Board of Supervisors, they dealt with a few drainage issues from days gone by. They moved to correct a discrepancy that county drainage clerk Courtney Morris found in a past drainage action. During an October hearing regarding work to DD #107, there was a verbal motion made that included a different assessment percentage than was referred to on a report. No landowners were in attendance at the hearing and no one had objected but the board moved to correct the numbers for the record.

Morris also told the board about a letter that the county received from the law firm Jacobson-Westergard & Associates, Inc. about land in Liberty Township adjacent to Humboldt County DD #9. Over ten years ago, there was some actions taken on work in that area that were never completed and now Humboldt County wants to move forward on cleaning that up. The board will likely talk more about this action with Humboldt County Supervisors next week.

In the weekly COVID update, Sandy McGrath noted that there has been a total of 3,599 cases in the county since they started gathering data. She added that there were only 10 new cases reported last week, though she feels that that number may be artificially low as people are testing at home. She still encourages people to report cases to Public Health. The county vaccination rate is 56.4%. McGrath and the board agreed to move from weekly updates to one per month unless there is something abnormal happening.

In other business, County Engineer Adam Clemons noted that he is now a member of the Iowa Highway Research Board and that the group is participating in some research on using eggshells to stabilize roads. Clemons added that he volunteered to be involved in that research and has started consulting with egg facilities in the county.
