On Wednesday, April 13 Clarion-Goldfield-Dows art students participated in the 2022 North Central Conference Art Show. This year’s show was again held in-person at Iowa Central Community College's campus in Fort Dodge. There are eight schools who attended, and each school brings 15 works of art for a total of 120 works.
Several CGD High School students participated in the art show this year under the direction of high school art teacher Heather Walker.
“The NCC Art Show is a unique day where these students get to collaborate with peers of like interests and showcase their passion,” said Walker. “The most rewarding thing for me as a teacher is to watch them grow over the course of their four years at CGD.”
CGD won two awards this year. Lucy Fulk won 1st Place for Judge's Choice for CGD and Austin Bierl won 1st Place for Best of Show Overall. “We had two students win awards this year and that is truly a huge honor,” said Walker. “I am so very happy for the students who were selected. However, it is not about winning for me, I just want everyone to have a fun experience, be inspired, and enjoy. Ultimately, I want all students to feel valued for being a part of the show and know how proud I am of all of them (including those who were not selected for the show this year and continue to hone their craft).”
Walker added, “I am exceedingly proud of all of my students and the artwork they produce. Art truly is a skill that anyone can learn with time and effort. This is reflected in the artworks selected for the show this year. These students apply their skill with heart and hard work which shows in every piece they create. Behind every piece is countless hours of sketching, testing art mediums, revisions, and many hours of persistence.”
