Cowgirls golfers hit the course for two meets

 

On Tuesday, April 19, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirl golf team headed to Humboldt, competing against that school in addition to Hampton-Dumont-CAL. Humboldt’s team led the day by a wide margin with a 181 collectively. CGD came in second at 220 and Hampton scored a 227.

Humboldt’s golfers took the top five places. CGD’s top lady was Sawyer Morrical who carded a 53, Karina Torres and Emily Christensen both scored 55. Other varsity golfers were Lauren Brooks – 57, Delia Swanson – 62, and Emma Fishburn – 65

CGD JV golfers and scores were: Sydney Friesleben  – 62, Julia Gardner- 63, Olyvia Olson- 69, Reagan Goodell- 73, Paige German – 74, and Aysa Lyons – 74.

Coach Austin Heeran said, “It was great to get out and play again after having so many meets cancelled. It was a mental grind dealing with the temperature and trying to get comfortable playing again. The girls handled it really well. I know they weren't happy with the scores, but I was proud of the way they fought through the cold. We are looking forward to the upcoming meets and watching the improvement as the year goes.”

On Friday, the ‘girls stayed home for a meet against Iowa Falls-Alden and Webster City at Clarmond. The local ladies came away in the second position with a score 221 between Iowa Falls’s 218 and WC’s 228.

CGD’s best score of the day was shot by Christensen with a lean 49. Other CGD scores: Gardner (56), Brooks (58), Torres (58) and Swanson (62).
