More wins for boys golf

The Cowboys golf team is a roll! Last week, they continued their winning ways. On Monday, May 2, they won another home meet at Clarmond (CGD’s score 162) against Forest City (181), Belmond-Klemme (204), and Central Springs (210). Elic Fjetland, who lost a ball on #9 that cost him two strokes ended with Medalist honors anyway with a 39. Jacob Moore was right behind him with a 40. Jackson Beisel really came through with a 41 and Cale Kirstein finished with a very respectable 42. Coach Pat O’Brien said, “We played very well Monday night at Clarmond. We are going to need those kinds of scores to end up this season for us.”

CGD’s Junior Varsity also won with a 204 to Forest City's 210. Landen Kakacek and Garrett Seaba had 49's for the JV.

On Tuesday, May 3, the team travelled to Algona for a dual meet (also their last JV meet). “We didn't play well,” said O’Brien. “But we still managed to collect the win with a score of 186 to Algona High's 203. The only reasonable scores to talk about are Jacob's medalist 43 and Cale's runner up medalist 44.”

Carson Nesheim had a 46 for the JV. Other Tuesday scores: Fjetland (49), Seaba (50), Kakacek (52), Beisel (53), Carson Harle (53), Coady Olson (55), Colin Kirstein (56), Luke Brownell (63), Caleb Seaba (70).

On Friday, the boys got in another home meet, this time a quad. The hometown Cowboys got bested by Grundy Center on a beautiful day for golf. Team scores: Grundy 161, CGD 172, North Union 186, and GHV 192.

Jacob Moore earned runner up medalist with a 38 behind GC’s Auston Martens with a 36. Other notable CGD scores- Fjetland with a 42, Cale K. with a 44 and Harle with a 48.

O’Brien said, “We shot 172 which isn’t a bad score but certainly could have been better. I bet all the teams could say that! Grundy Center has got a really nice team – very deep. We still need our top three to score like they can and then need a fourth score to come through.”

The team faces some big meets ahead. Check back in next week’s Monitor for more golf coverage.
