CGD High School Sophomore Elliot Ennis, daughter of coach Liz Ennis was named KQradio's Defensive Player of the Year for her stellar performance in the 2022-23 season. KQ Radio's Quinn Douglas wrote that the season saw Ennis "blossom, averaging nearly a double-double and becoming a frontcourt force in the NCC," as she led the conference, both in rebounding (10.6), and in blocks (2.6).
Ennis' record for the season was: 9.3 PPG, 10.6 RPG, 1.6 SPG, 2.6 BPG, 45.6% FG, 43.3% FT.
Ennis was also chosen as Forward for the All Area First Team, with Douglas writing that Ennis "solidified" her spot on the team with her performance in the season which earned her the Defensive Player of the Year award.
Senior Lexi Lane was honored as well, being chosen as Guard for the All Area First Team after a season with a record of: 15.4 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 3.3 APG, 3.3 SPG, 38% FG, 32% 3PT, 72.9% FT.
Douglas wrote that Lane was considered for Player of the Year after her "historic" 41 points against West Hancock and 39 points against Webster City. And while that honor went to South Hamilton's Hallee Feaker instead, Douglas wrote that Lane was a "no-brainer choice" for the First Team.
Junior Sawyer Morrical "headlines the second-team", Douglas wrote, as his selection for Guard on the All Area Second-Team, thanks to her PPG average of 10, and to her shooting nearly 41% from three, the highest in the KQ Radio listening area.
Morrical's record for the season was: 10.4 PPG, 2.3 RPG, 3.4 APG, 2.4 SPG, 37.7% FG, 40.8% 3PT, 70% FT.
