The members of P.E.O. are pleased to announce the 100th anniversary of their chapter, Chapter FS, organized on February 28, 1921, in Clarion, lowa. "Women Helping Women Reach for the Stars." That is the goal of P.E.O.. The sisterhood is dedicated to empowering girls and women through education and providing support in helping them meet their highest aspirations.
Financial assistance enables girls and women to pursue their educational goals. The organization has given millions of dollars to girls and women through scholarships, grants, awards, and low-interest loans (a 2% rate).
Since 1972, P.E.O. has owned and operated Cottey College, located in Nevada, Missouri. Cottey is a nationally ranked, fully accredited, four-year independent liberal arts and sciences college for women. Last year there were 350 students from 40 states and Canada and 26 foreign countries enrolled at Cottey. An attractive "perk" while attending Cottey College is that every sophomore level student has an opportunity to participate in a week-long international trip. The experience is paid for by the college.
The initials P.E.O. represent Philanthropic Educational Organization. The International Chapter of P.E.O. and the Iowa State Chapter of P.E. O. are both located in Des Moines, Iowa.
