The Quilt of Valor ceremony on October 24, 2023, marked a heartfelt recognition of Roger Stover, formerly of Dows, Iowa. Attending the ceremony were his wife Gloria, and son Wes, along with esteemed members of the Dows American Legion and Auxiliary, such as Bill and Barb Chambers. Several close friends of the Stover family were in attendance as well.
Roger's profound dedication to service was evident as he enlisted in the Army merely a week after his high school graduation. Stationed in Vietnam in 1965, he contributed significantly to constructing vital infrastructural elements, including roads, airstrips, and troop accommodations.
His commendable service was duly honored with several prestigious awards, including the Sharp Shooter Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.
Following his honorable discharge in 1966, Roger returned to his roots in Iowa, where he initially worked for A.J. Heinz before transitioning to a long-standing career with Bill Weidemann for 20 years, followed by another two decades of dedicated service with the Wright County Roads' bridge crew.
Roger's unwavering commitment to his community is also reflected in his active participation in the Dows American Legion Post 523, a testament to his enduring spirit of service and camaraderie.
