Student’s Spectacular Performance of ‘Mamma Mia’ Sparks Delight

Clarion students were eager to present Mamma Mia, a legendary jukebox musical with music by ABBA. The show proved to be a popular one with 284 people in attendance opening night and another 160 the following night. With such great numbers in attendance, it is no wonder the school board approved the forming of a committee to jumpstart the funding for an auditorium. The new sound system made possible through the Wright County Charitable Foundation and Music Boosters, had a chance to wow the audience with its inaugural use during Mama Mia.

“As part of the High School Musical Theater Awards program, our show was adjudicated for consideration in the Awards Showcase held in May at the Des Moines Civic Center. It is through that organization that we were gifted used stage lights to supplement what we currently have.” Joseph Granzow, director of the musical, shared with the Wright County  Monitor. The lights shined brightly during the show but not as brightly as the cast and crew.

Joseph Granzow and Nikki Conlon directed the musical and released the following joint statement:
It has truly been a pleasure to work with this fine group of young adults. They have come together to form a musical family where everyone gets along and takes care of each other. This shows that all parts of a school community can get involved in multiple activities. On stage, we have musicians, dancers, football players, FFA leaders, student council members, e-Sports players, and they juggled schedules around academics as well as work. We couldn't be prouder of them and what they are presenting to you today. Thank you for supporting the performing fine arts and encouraging these students to take a risk and get involved. We look forward to more of this in the future!”
